Overview

The Quality Vagabond is the best build for players new to Elden Ring or Souls games in general. By leveling both Strength and Dexterity equally, you can effectively wield almost every weapon in the game. This gives you incredible flexibility to experiment and find what works best for your playstyle without needing to respec.

The build starts with the Vagabond class, which has the highest combined physical stats and comes with a shield and straight sword. Your early-game target is the Claymore, one of the most beloved weapons in the Souls series. It has an excellent moveset, good scaling on Quality affinity, and both slash and thrust attacks for versatility. Later, you can branch into Bloodhound's Fang for a weapon with a powerful built-in weapon art.

This build is rated Beginner because the Vagabond starts with strong armor and a shield, giving you a safety net while you learn the game. High Vigor makes you tanky, and balanced stats mean you are never locked into one weapon type.

Equipment

Weapons

Claymore (Quality affinity) — The perfect all-around Greatsword. Excellent moveset with both sweeping and thrusting attacks. Found in Castle Morne.

Bloodhound's Fang — Curved Greatsword with innate bleed and a fantastic dodge-attack weapon art. Available early from the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

Lordsworn's Greatsword — Available immediately from Gatefront Ruins. Your starter weapon until you reach the Claymore.

Armor

Veteran's Set — Solid all-around heavy armor with excellent damage negation. Good poise for trading hits. Available after defeating Commander Niall at Castle Sol.

Talismans

Erdtree's Favor — The best general-purpose talisman. Boosts HP, stamina, and equip load simultaneously.

Great-Jar's Arsenal — Massive equip load increase. Lets you wear heavier armor while staying in medium roll.

Radagon's Soreseal — +5 to VIG, END, STR, DEX. The stat boost is huge for Quality builds that want both damage stats.

Green Turtle Talisman — Increases stamina recovery speed. Very helpful for melee builds that need to attack and dodge frequently.

Flask Setup

13 Crimson, 1 Cerulean. Almost pure melee with minimal FP needs. Use the Cerulean for the occasional weapon art.

Progression Tips

Early Game (SL 1-50): Start Vagabond. Use the starting equipment through the first area, then grab the Lordsworn's Greatsword from Gatefront Ruins. Head to Castle Morne in Weeping Peninsula for the Claymore. Also defeat the Evergaol boss for Bloodhound's Fang. Focus Vigor to 30, then split STR/DEX equally.

Mid Game (SL 50-80): Get Radagon's Soreseal from Fort Faroth. Push STR and DEX to 35 each. Keep Vigor climbing. Apply Quality affinity to Claymore for balanced scaling.

Late Game (SL 80+): Push STR and DEX to 45 each. Upgrade to Veteran's Set for better defense. You can try almost any weapon in the game at this point — the beauty of Quality builds.

Alternative Options

Any weapon you enjoy — that is the entire point of a Quality build. Here are some standouts:

Uchigatana (Quality) — Fast katana with bleed. Available from the start if you want to dual-wield later.

Bolt of Gransax — DEX-leaning spear with an incredible ranged weapon art. Good secondary weapon for versatility.

Shard of Alexander — If you rely heavily on weapon arts, swap out Green Turtle Talisman for this 15% weapon art damage boost.
