Best Bleed Build — Rivers of Blood

Shred HP bars with Corpse Piler and massive bleed procs. The most popular Elden Ring build for a reason.

Overview

The Rivers of Blood bleed build is arguably the most popular and powerful build in Elden Ring. It revolves around the Rivers of Blood katana and its devastating Corpse Piler weapon art, which unleashes a flurry of slashes that apply massive bleed buildup. When a bleed proc triggers, it deals a percentage of the enemy's maximum HP as damage, making this build effective against nearly every boss in the game.

The build combines DEX and Arcane scaling to maximize both direct damage and bleed buildup rate. Arcane directly increases the bleed buildup on weapons with innate Arcane scaling, meaning your bleeds trigger faster and hit harder. Paired with the White Mask helmet and Lord of Blood's Exultation talisman, each bleed proc also grants you a significant attack power boost for follow-up damage.

This build is rated Beginner because Corpse Piler does most of the heavy lifting. You don't need precise timing or complex combos — just activate the weapon art and watch HP bars evaporate. The only downside is that Rivers of Blood is a late-game weapon found in the Mountaintops of the Giants, so you will need a substitute weapon for the first half of the game.

Equipment

Weapons

Rivers of Blood — Your primary weapon. Corpse Piler is the core of this build, dealing massive bleed-infused slashes in rapid succession.

Uchigatana (Blood affinity) — Offhand or early-game weapon. Apply Blood affinity for extra bleed buildup when powerstancing.

Armor

White Mask — Grants 10% attack boost for 20 seconds when bleed procs nearby. Essential for this build.

White Reed Set (body, arms, legs) — Light armor that fits the Samurai aesthetic while keeping equip load manageable.

Talismans

Lord of Blood's Exultation — 20% attack boost when bleed procs nearby. Stacks with White Mask.

Winged Sword Insignia — Boosts attack with successive hits, perfect for Corpse Piler.

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia — Upgraded version of Winged Sword Insignia for even more damage.

Millicent's Prosthesis — +5 DEX and successive hit damage boost.

Flask Setup

12 Crimson, 2 Cerulean. Mostly melee-focused so FP usage is low, but you want enough for multiple Corpse Piler activations per encounter.

Progression Tips

Early Game (SL 1-50): Start Samurai for the Uchigatana. Apply Blood affinity as soon as you unlock Ashes of War. Focus on Vigor to 25 and start pumping Arcane. The Uchigatana with Blood affinity carries hard through Limgrave and Liurnia.

Mid Game (SL 50-80): Continue with Blood Uchigatana. Pick up Lord of Blood's Exultation from the Leyndell sewers. Get Vigor to 40, then split points between DEX and Arcane.

Late Game (SL 80+): Obtain Rivers of Blood from Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Repose in Mountaintops of the Giants. Equip White Mask from the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum area. Push ARC to 50 and DEX to 45.

Alternative Options

Eleonora's Poleblade — A twinblade with built-in bleed and Arcane scaling. Great for a different weapon feel while maintaining the bleed playstyle.

Reduvia — Available extremely early from Limgrave. Excellent bleed dagger with a ranged weapon art for the early game.

Shard of Alexander — Boosts weapon art damage by 15%. A strong alternative to one of the successive-hit talismans if you rely heavily on Corpse Piler.
